GRL Performs Various Q/A Tests on the Harbor River Bridge
Proposed in 2014, the Harbor Bridge replacement project has begun construction with quality assurance testing. The known vacation destination, Harbor Island, is accessed through this drawbridge, located on US-21 in South Carolina. This sea island was originally hunting land that had little need for incoming and outgoing traffic, which was sufficient for the bridge’s original capacity. Read More
New Jersey Hurricane and Storm Damage Reduction Project

SR-19 Over Little Lake Harris Bridge
The current bridge over Little Lake Harris in Central Florida has been in use since 1950. The original bridge that connected Howey and Astatula was a long, wooden bridge that opened in 1927. After the second span was built, the wooden bridge was torn down, only leaving a small dock in its place. Being the third iteration of the pathway from Howey and Astatula, it is of significance that the new bridge can service the drivers of Lake County, Florida. Read More
Russell Street Bridge Replacement
The existing 2-lane Russell Street Bridge in Missoula, Montana, a major highway with high traffic volume, was in need of reconstruction. GRL was contacted to perform a bi-directional static load test (“BDSLT”) on a representative test shaft. The test shaft had a diameter of 71 inches, and a length of 75 feet. The embedded bi-directional jack assembly contained three 2,200-kip GRL-Cells, resulting in a potential test load of 13,200 kips. GRL provided thermal integrity profiling (“TIP”) services to assess concrete quality and post-concreted geometry of the test shaft. Read More
Norfolk Southern Rail Road Over the Grand River
The Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge over the Grand River in Painesville, OH, was built in 1905 and reinforced in the 1940’s. High maintenance costs and a restrictively large footprint in the Grand River led to the decision to replace the bridge. The Great Lakes Construction Company was awarded the contract and chose Suburban Maintenance Construction, Inc. to install 26 drilled shaft foundations ranging from 4’ to 7’ diameter and up to 93.5 feet in length. GRL Engineers, Inc. provided the SQUID equipment, data evaluation and reporting. Read More
The New Tappan Zee Bridge
